203 Lafayette street

203 Lafayette Street (also known as “The Dignan House”) was built by John Dignan circa 1904. This two-and-a-half story Victorian style home is located on a prominent street corner along 1st Street (Highway 63 northbound) downtown Waterloo. Its high visibility and historic character made it the perfect candidate for Cedar River Renaissance.

Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credits were leveraged to help make the project happen. The renovation project included rebuilding the roof, replacing windows, repairing exterior siding, complete replacement of building support systems, and the restoration of iconic interior features such as the grand staircase.

Reorganizing the layout and reclaiming the attic as living space allows for two spacious two-bedroom apartments with modern amenities and unique living spaces.
